Beebbly Team Cours Exercices corrigés Gratuits American History X est un film engagé qui a le mérite d'avoir le courage d'aborder un thème particulièrement glissant celui du manichéisme et des clichés lié au racisme et à la xénophobie, mais qui pêche par la faute d'un esthétisme trop proche de la publicité...dont sortait à l'époque son réalistateur, Tony Kaye. A trop vouloir épater la galerie, à l'instar de ces passages en noir & blanc certes magnifiques mais jamais justifiés, Kaye oublie que la seule maîtrise technique, aussi indiscutable qu'elle soit, ne suffit jamais. Toutefois, la subtilité du discours, l'amour que porte le cinéaste à ses personnages mêmes racistes, la volonté de ne pas trop les juger, la dureté de certaines scènes voir la traumatisante séquence du défonçage de mâchoire sur le trottoir et l'interprétation exemplaire des deux Edward Norton et Furlong sans oublier le méconnaissable Stacy ''Mike Hammer'' Keach, font d'American History X une réussite mineure. On est malheureusement passé à côté d'un grand film, loin par exemple du niveau qu'a pu atteindre Spike Lee avec Do the Right Thing. Peut-être un jour aurons-nous le droit à la director's cut, Kaye ayant toujours renié son film après le remontage du studio.
